The Art of Farming
The inspriational story of an incredible lifestyle.
A Balanced Lifestyle - John Heard’s Hinchinbrook Way
Being connected with nature and sustaining himself as much as possible from the land, are important lifestyle qualities John lives by. His farm is his sanctuary, he grows a range of crops, raises birds and runs a herd of Draught Master cattle – a breed with local origins.
His property is rich with red soil, a result of the Mt Fox crater, a legacy leftover from an ancient volcano. The area is packed full of diverse landscapes including dry country, open woodlands, and lush tropical forest. This habitat supports a diversity of wildlife, which regularly visit John’s property.
What John sees daily on his farm, provides the inspiration for his artworks. It could be as simple as a bird taking flight, or the majestic shape of an ancient tree, or wallabies boxing in the open fields. These types of moments on his farm inspire his creations in his farm shed.
He believes that living off the land, and having the space, time and inspiration to be creative is the secret to high quality living and balanced lifestyle. It’s why John Heard calls Hinchinbrook’s Mt Fox home.
