STEAM DOMINATES

PARKS AND GRASSY VERGES

During the harvesting season, this steam train ran through the centre of Herbert Street. Before 1927, vehicles travelled in all directions and wove across the landscape. The train line was removed in 1932 and replaced with shady trees and a playground. Grassed verges become a rest stop for local families and weary travellers..
